Following on from news this week that the share prices for Yell have dropped by 26%, we decided to issue a press release yesterday on behalf of Brownbook.net, commenting on the reasons behind this.

It's a perfect topical opportunity to show people that directory business is moving online and that a site such as Brownbook.net offers so many advantages over printed and other online directories.

Brown is the new yellow

We recently welecomed another online business onto the Friday Holdings group of companies - Brownbook.

Brownbook is tagged as 'the open business directory' and what sets it apart from other online directories is that users can both add listings themselves and also add reviews about businesses listed as well.

Marc Lyne, one of the founders of Brownbook and former CTO of BT Directories said: “We see this joint venture with Friday Holdings Ltd as a fantastic opportunity to dramatically extend our reach to consumers and businesses.

“This is a win-win relationship with Friday Holdings Ltd which will see Brownbook leveraging existing, distribution, sales and marketing resources, and further developing their mission to connect buyers with sellers.

“The joint venture will explore similar opportunities with publishers in other countries as we roll out Brownbook to the rest of the World, starting with Canada, US and Australia over the next six weeks.”

You may have also seen Rob's email asking all staff to visit Brownbook and enter reviews of three local businesses or services that you have used.
Email Rob the three links when posted and you could win an iPod Nano.

For more information about Brownbook, check out their blog or email dave@brownbook.net or marc@brownbook.net.

Cheap fuel finder

With oil prices going through the roof this year I'm sure you have all experienced the horrific cost of filling your car up.

As a business with company cars we too are naturally feeling the effects of this also, but by filling up your company car at the cheapest place then this will potentially make a big difference.

You can easily get this info by registering with Petrolprices.com, a really useful site that allows you to seek out the best price (by fuel type) that's close to you.

I will aim to list the best places here also each week and as a starter the cheapest (as of 6th May) for some of our office locations are...

  • Sayers Common - Tesco Burgess Hill (unleaded 110.9p and diesel 119.9p)
  • Pembroke Dock - Asda (unleaded 108.9p and diesel 118.9p)
  • Trade-It - Sainsburys Castle Court (unleaded 108.9p and diesel 117.9p)
  • Preston - Petromex Lea Gate (unleaded 109.9p and 119p)
Another way to save money on fuel is by not sticking in the 'Premium' fuel, as this will cost you lots more.

The company will be monitoring the costs spent on fuel from now on, so get into the habit of filling up cheaply now before you get the 'friendly reminder'.
